WHAT SOME OF OUR SUPPORTERS HAVE TO SAY...

"I am writing to recommend Sean Casey as a qualified reptile rehabilitator/placement facilitator. As animal department supervisor for the New York Aquarium, I field many calls concerning unwanted pet reptiles... I met Sean last year, when I had to find a home for a green iguana. I visited his residence, and found that he had an excellent reptile holding area. He impressed me with his knowledge of the biology, captive care, handling, and disease treatment of a wide variety of reptiles. He housed the iguana with others in a spacious habitat that he had built, and found a suitable permanent home for the animal within a week. He provided me with the name and contact number of the person who had adopted the iguana, so that I could provide the new owner with information that might benefit the on-going care for this animal.

I spoke with the curators at the aquarium , and have suggested that Sean be the person contacted when the aquarium receives unwanted pet reptiles deemed unsuitable for any of our parks. My curators have agreed that this is a reasonable course of action."

-Hans Walters, Animal Department Supervisor, New York Aquarium

"Sean Has been a member of the NYHS for about six years. He attends monthly meetings... and has participated in public education events. For years he has maintained a an extensive collection of animals, often taking in sick, injured, or unwanted animals from all sources. I have been particulary impressed by his willingness to take in the types of animals that nobody else wants. He accepts species that are most common, require the most care, are hardest to place, have no monetary value and are not even desirable for for breeding purposes just as quickly as he would accept a more desirable animal. I believe he is genuinely concerned with the welfare of of the individual animals above all else, and he has shown tremendous dedication to this cause. He is experienced in in all aspects of of reptile and amphibian husbandry, including feeding, setting up proper caging, breeding, handling potentially dangerous specimens, diagnosis of medical problems, medicating, force feeding, and injury care. He has been very successful in finding good homes for many hard to place animals.

Several months ago, the NYHS board voted unanimously to authorize Sean to accept animals on behalf of the society. He is the only person other than the five current board members who has been authorized to do so. Further, it was decided that people who contacted the society asking to place animals could be given Sean's name and phone number, with the recomendation they call him directly."

-Michael Hano, President, New York Herpetological Society

"I never stop telling anyone who will listen about the wonderful work that Sean Casey Animal Rescue does. A few weeks ago our club, the New York Companion Bird Club, rented space at a street fair sponsored by the NYCACC. The event turned out to be a success -- many cats and dogs were adopted and given a chance to live their lives out here on earth. However, when an extremely distressed woman came in with an injured pigeon wrapped in her sweater, the NYCACC was unable to take it in because they are not equipped to take in wildlife. The pigeon's feet were entwined in string, swollen and looked infected from getting caught in a homemade trap that had been laid for him. The bird was in pain and needed help. Without hesitation, Susan from Sean Casey Animal Rescue tenderly took the bird from the woman's hands and promised her that the bird would receive the proper care and treatment that he needed and deserved. I was extremely impressed with Susan, their organization and their dedication to all animals".

"I've known Sean Casey for many years and have long admired his dedication and willingness to learn. Sean is willing to care for any animal in need regardless of its perceived monetary value. He provides a much needed resource for the endless numbers of unwanted and abandoned reptiles in our community."

-AJ Gutman, CT Iguana Sanctuary

"Sean's the greatest! We've always featured him under the pet rescue sections of our Brooklyn Community information websites Fido in Prospect Park and Small Town Brooklyn. He was the inspiration for our daughter Katie forming her own website: Fish Doctor. We have a a Bearded Dragon named Piddlesnaps that we got from Sean as a tiny hatchling. It's now almost a foot & a half long and goes to Maine with us every summer."

- Bob Ipcar & Jane Landis, Small Town Brooklyn, Community Information Website

"I am writing on behalf of Sean Casey, reptile rescue caretaker. I've been networking with Sean for several months. I find him to be very knowledgeable about turtles and their needs. He guided me about my musk and red ear slider turtles. Sean Casey is an asset to the reptile community."

-Jude Lassow-Sunden, Director, Muffin's Pet Connection

"Although most of his time is dedicated to exotics, he is devoted to all animals. Sean nurses everything from irate iguanas and hissing boas to large adult dogs, tiny puppies, ferral cats, lovable kittens, messy ducks, loud roosters, fat rats, and deformed turtles, sometimes all at once. When you first meet Sean and see what he does for all those animals day in and day out and how much time it entails, one can not help but wonder why in God's name he is so committed. As one gets to know him though, they will realize that he is not just unusual, he truly loves the animals. In short, Sean Casey's character exemplifies the good nature that is sadly but increasingly uncommon in our society. It is incredible to think how much of a difference one individual can make in this world."

-Lorena Carvajal, Pet Owner

"I met Sean through the New York Herpetological Society. He was at a meeting trying to find homes for some rehabilitated snakes. He told me about his project of taking in unwanted animals and finding good homes for them. Sean has an open door policy for anyone who wants to check out what he does, and he invited me to come over and see the project in action for myself. And so I did... Sean Casey is a credit to the animal rescue field. I would have no hesitation entrusting my own animals to Sean, and that is the best testimony I can give as I would not entrust my animals to just anyone."

-Susan Scofield, Member, New York Herpetological Society, SCAR Volunteer

"I met Sean Casey a year ago when I was looking to adopt an iguana. I spent many days talking with Sean before accepting the animal. Sean made sure I knew everything I needed to know before taking home my new iguana. My interest in keeping reptiles grew after owning my iguana for a few months... I have since acquired many other pet reptiles, and have learned a lot about them through Sean. I recommend him to everyone I meet with pet reptiles."

-Michael J. Pertell, Pet Owner

"I am writing to recommend Sean Casey as a qualified reptile handler and placement person. I have known Sean for about 3 years, and in that time my knowledge of the care of reptiles has grown with Sean's help. I have had success with all the reptiles I have gotten from Sean. I refer people to Sean all the time. One thing I would like to say is that Sean is very concerned with the welfare of the animals, and I have personally seen how he takes the time to teach others in the care of the animals."
